Our trip west, September 2002
Day 2, August 31
Raton to Roswell
We left Raton at 7:00 AM on US-64 after a continental breakfast at the motel. Passed by the NRA's Whittington Center and was sorely tempted to stop, but it was too early and our main goal was to get to Roswell with plenty of time to see the UFO museum.
Took almost 2 hours to get to Taos, where we wandered around because most things weren't open yet. Didn't get a chance to see any B&Bs. Click on our Taos Pictures to see them in larger detail.
.
Left Taos on NM 68 around 10:30. The road runs down a gorge of the Rio Grande, so we took some pictures (see below). Picked up US-285 and continued to Santa Fe. Sandra had a rough choice - stop in Sandra Fe for a public art festival on the square or get to Roswell in time. She chose Roswell, so we only got one picture of the cathedral (see below)

Had lunch in the middle of nowhere, a mediocre hot dog. Then drove hard to get to Roswell by 3 PM. Sandra toured the museum, shops and more. See the pictures below:

Stayed at the Leisure Inn, where I stayed with George & Greg in 2000, but the smoking rooms aren't as big as the non-smoking rooms. Also, the place we ate last time (Cattle Baron) wasn't as good this time. Sandra liked her steak but the prime rib - ok only.
Todays travel: 358 miles. time from Raton to Roswell, 8:03.
