Our trip west, September 2002
Day 5, September 3
Grand Canyon to Las Vegas

After breakfast at the hotel, we headed back to the Grand Canyon and spent abut 3 more hours there. We started out by hustling up to Grand View Point to see what looked different from the previous evening:

We then returned westward toward the main tourism area, stopping at a few overlooks along the way:

Left the canyon area at 10:15 AM and headed south on AZ-64 to Williams, then west on I-10. Stopped at Kingman for a late lunch at a Pizza Hut (we were very hungry, and behind schedule, as well). Then north on US-93, watching the dust devils whrl up in the valley parallel to the highway. Saw as many as 8 at one time. Got to the Hoover Dam area about 5 PM and took one picture; it was 109 degrees there.

Arrived at the Hawthorn Suites, where my meeting was to be held, at 3:30, checked in and cleaned up. Sandra went next door to the PT's Mining Company casino for a cheap supper while I visited during a BBQ. Afterwards, I rescued her from the casino, where she had a pocketfull of quarters, and we drove downtown to see Fremont Street and the laser show. It was crowded and livelier than a lot of the strip area, and the show was nice (but a bit loud). They played various rock icons and displayed appropriate light patterns and pictures overhead. Played a little at several casinos (you can visit quite a few with a short walk) and did OK. Drove the strip back and got a bit lost trying to find the Boulder Highway back to where we were staying.
